Here is the list of 5 perfect Summer reads for 2020. I chose these based on the time of year set or the overall vibe. Although it is good to note with full disclosure that one book is set in Summer/Fall.
I am excited to share my go-to picks with you. Any of them will be the perfect road-trip or vacation read! Hey even a 2020 stay-cation, yes I see you 🙂
The Sunflower
This book by Richard Paul Evans is my Summer read!! Seriously, I try to read this one every Summer and it makes #1 on this list because I am also currently reading it.
About the book:

“It has been said, ‘Seek not your destiny for it is seeking you.’” So begins this new and powerful novel from Richard Paul Evans, #1 bestselling author of The Christmas Box, The Walk series, and more.
In the wake of personal tragedy, two people meet on a humanitarian mission in Peru. Christine is a shy, unadventurous woman whose fiancé broke off the engagement only a week before the wedding, and Paul is a former emergency room doctor whose glamorous lifestyle, stellar reputation, and beautiful fiancée are cruelly snatched from him one fateful, snowy Christmas Eve. Deep in the Amazon jungle, against a backdrop of poverty and heartbreak, they must confront their deepest fears and, together, learn to trust and love again.”
A Walk to Remember
I’m sure this is a familiar title by Nicholas Sparks and honestly, most books by him are perfect for your Summer beach-trip since many take place on the Southern Coast!

About the book:
“A high school rebel and a minister’s daughter find strength in each other in this star-crossed tale of “young but everlasting love” (Chicago Sun-Times).
There was a time when the world was sweeter….when the women in Beaufort, North Carolina, wore dresses, and the men donned hats… Every April, when the wind smells of both the sea and lilacs, Landon Carter remembers 1958, his last year at Beaufort High. Landon had dated a girl or two and even once sworn that he’d been in love. Certainly, the last person he thought he’d fall for was Jamie, the shy, almost ethereal daughter of the town’s Baptist minister…Jamie, who was destined to show him the depths of the human heart-and the joy and pain of living. The inspiration for this novel came from Nicholas Sparks’s sister: her life and her courage.”
Kisses from Katie
This is the only non-fiction book on the list but this one will touch your heart. I was first given this book as a gift to accompany me on my first ever flight, on my way to a mission trip overseas. Talk about a perfect airplane read, especially heading onto the mission field.

About the book:
“The New York Times bestselling account of a courageous eighteen-year-old from Nashville who gave up every comfort and convenience to become the adoptive mother to thirteen girls in Uganda.
What would cause an eighteen-year-old senior class president and homecoming queen from Nashville, Tennessee, to disobey and disappoint her parents by forgoing college, break her little brother’s heart, lose all but a handful of her friends (because they think she has gone off the deep end), and break up with the love of her life, all so she could move to Uganda, where she knew only one person and didn’t even speak the language?”
Jillian Dare
This is a lesser-known book that is perfect for road trip reading and if you are being faced with many life changes in this season, it might be the perfect fit to coast you through that. This book is a contemporary retelling of the classic novel, Jane Eyre. I know, right!
About his book:

“Jillian Dare leaves her Shenandoah Valley foster home behind and strikes out on her own as a nanny at a large country estate in northern Virginia. She is delighted with the beauty of her new home, the affection of her young charge Cadence Remington, and the opportunity for frequent travel to the Remington castle in England. She is less certain about her feelings for her handsome but moody employer, Ethan. In spite of herself, Jillian realizes she is falling for her boss. But how can a humble girl ever hope to win a wealthy man of the world? And what dark secrets from the past is he hiding? This contemporary story, inspired by the well-loved classic Jane Eyre, will capture readers’ hearts.”
Christy Miller Series: Book 1 | A Summer Promise
The absolute best Christian-fiction Summer read, especially if you are in high school, about to be, OR you want to remember what it was like to be fifteen.

About the book:
“It all starts the summer Christy turns 15. She leaves Wisconsin and spends her vacation with her wealthy aunt and uncle in Newport Beach, California. That’s where she meets Todd, the surfer with the screaming silver-blue eyes who changes her life forever.”
*This book now comes with the first volume of the series*
